—Sorong coal in the Salawati Basin has the potential to be developed. Detailed research on Sorong coal is very much needed, especially research on paleoenviromental when coal is deposited. This research is interesting because of the position of the Sorong coal which is regionally stratigraphic in alluvial and litoral deposits that are quarterly. For this reason, the main objective of this research is to determine the type of maceral compiler of coal and determine the paleoenviromental of coal deposition. Efforts to achieve these two objectives used two research methods namely field survey (cutting drilling) and petrography analysis. The results of the petrography analysis were dominated by the types of vitrinite (huminite) maceral groups ranging from 76.5 to 87.8%. The coal paleoenviromental based on two classifications are interpreted as limnic environment (deposited in lake swamps). As for the environmental interpretation of food supplies based on the analysis shows rheotrophic swamps.
